Sardinia Adventure! part 2.

🇮🇹 Quest' anno ho avuto modo di testare la mia serie Megabass Orochi X10 su una realtà che si distacca abbastanza da quella della penisola; infatti su questi ambienti sardi la pesca ha sicuramente un imprinting più power di quello a cui noi siamo abituati.

Una cosa che ho capito la prima volta che sono venuto qui, è che, similmente alla realtà americana, questi laghi con delle ottime popolazioni di bass anche di taglia, quasi sempre sono spot complicati e impervi, specialmente per via del granito, una roccia veramente tagliente, e incredibilmente usurante per i nostri fili e le nostre esche. Anche lo stesso quantitativo di catture è inevitabilmente un fattore che porta a un' usura maggiore la nostra attrezzatura, quindi ho cercato di dimensionare quanto più possibile i miei settaggi e le mie canne alla realtà che avrei affrontato.

🇬🇧 This year I had the opportunity to test my Megabass Orochi X10 series in a setting quite different from that of the mainland; in fact, in these Sardinian environments, fishing certainly has a more powerful feel than what we are used to.

One thing I realized the first time I came here is that, similar to the American situation, these lakes, with excellent bass populations, even of a large size, are almost always complicated and inaccessible spots, especially because of the granite, a truly sharp rock, and incredibly wear-and-tear for our lines and bait. Even the sheer quantity of catches inevitably leads to greater wear and tear on our gear, so I tried to tailor my settings and rods as much as possible to the situation I would be facing.

🇮🇹 Partendo dalle tecniche di recupero, ho utilizzato la Megabass Orochi X10 Jabberwock con un 14 lb, impiegata a Jerkbait e con crankbait di bassa profondità. 

6'8" (8 - 20lb) normalmente questa canna la monto con un 10 massimo 12lb, ma la sua riserva di potenza ci consente di salire fino a 14 senza nessun rischio.

Per la pesca con le esche ancorette questa è assolutamente una canna che consiglio a tutti, doppia azione Fast/Regular è l' ideale per jerkbait e harbait che richiedono un' azione data dal nostro braccio, topwater compresi. Una volta ferrato il pesce, con il suo peso, la canna diventa molto Regular.

Un' esca che ho utilizzato molto su questa canna è stato il Megabass Oneten R, di cui non credo ci sia bisogno di dire nulla.

🇬🇧 Starting with retrieval techniques, I used the Megabass Orochi X10 Jabberwock with a 14-pound test lead, using jerkbaits and shallow crankbaits. 6'8" (8-20 lb), and I normally rig this rod with a 10-12 lb maximum, but its power reserves allow us to go up to 14 lb without any risk. For treble fishing, this is definitely a rod I recommend to everyone. The Fast/Regular dual action is ideal for jerkbaits and harbaits that require arm action, including topwaters. Once the fish is hooked, the rod's weight makes it very Regular.

A lure I've used a lot on this rod is the Megabass Oneten R, which I don't think needs further comment.

🇮🇹 Un' altra canna che ho utilizzato veramente tanto è la  Bandersnatch! Pescandola a topwater o con wirebaits con un filo da 16lb ho coperto buona parte degli impieghi. Questa canna non è altro che la sorella maggiore della Jabberwock, con una lunghezza di 7' e una potenza fino a 1 oz (Fast, 12 - 25lb) dà il massimo con queste tipologie di esche, pur essendo veramente versatile e impiegabile anche con sofbait.

Un topwater che ha fatto la differenza è stato il Megabass Dog-X Diamante. Con le sue dimensioni importanti (12cm × 3/4 oz) l' azione in pesca è veramente efficace, anche su distanze importanti risponde al meglio con il suo movimento subdolo che lo contraddistingue da molti. Ho utilizzato la versione rattle, così da avere un maggior sound nei momenti di bassa luminosità o se pescavo su profondità importanti.

🇬🇧 Another rod I've used a lot is the Bandersnatch! Fishing it topwater or with wirebaits with 16 lb line, I've covered most of my applications. This rod is nothing less than the Jabberwock's big brother; at 7' long and with a casting weight of up to 1 oz (Fast, 12 - 25 lb), it excels with these types of lures, while also being truly versatile and suitable for softbaits.

A topwater that made a difference was the Megabass Dog-X Diamante. With its large size (12 cm × 3/4 oz), its fishing action is truly effective; even at long distances, it responds best with its subtle movement that sets it apart from many others. I used the rattle version, so as to have a stronger sound in low light or when fishing at considerable depths.

🇮🇹 Per quanto riguarda le softbait, ho scelto la Bearing down, canna eccezionale con un azione più veloce e nervosa della media di questa serie (6'9", 3/8 - 1 1/2oz, 12 -25lb Fast), per l' utilizzo del nuovo Magdraft Freestyle, sia nella versione 5" che 6", abbinato ovviamente alle nuovissime Magdraft Head, che, studiate esclusivamente per quest' esca, ci consentono un innesco perfetto per mantenere in-line la pancia del nostro shad con la parte inferiore della testa, consentendoci di passare in prossimità del fondale senza che l' esca si sbilanci. Se volete approfondire il concetto del Magdraft Freestyle, ne ho fatto un articolo dedicato! Ho sfruttato molto questa tecnica per cercare zone nuove di pesca, visto che ci consente di essere molto veloci e di portare la nostra esca alla profondità desiderata grazie alla varietà dei pesi che l' azienda ci offre.

Delle Magdraft Head abbiamo disponibili le taglie da 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 e 3/4 con amo 5/0 per il 5", mentre 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 e 1oz per il 6" con amo 6/0.

🇬🇧 As for softbaits, I chose the Bearing Down, an exceptional rod with a faster and more lively action than the average for this series (6'9", 3/8 - 1 1/2 oz, 12 - 25 lb Fast), for use with the new Magdraft Freestyle, both in the 5" and 6" versions, combined, of course, with the brand-new Magdraft Heads. Designed exclusively for this lure, these allow for a perfect rig to keep the belly of our shad in line with the lower part of the head, allowing us to pass close to the bottom without the lure becoming unbalanced. If you'd like to learn more about the Magdraft Freestyle concept, I've written a dedicated article about it! I've used this technique a lot to search for new fishing spots, as it allows us to be very fast and bring our lure to the desired depth thanks to the variety of weights the company offers.

We have Magdraft Heads available in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 with 5/0 hook for the 5", while 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1oz for the 6" with 6/0 hook.

🇮🇹 Ovviamente, le tecniche di presentazione con softbait sul fondo non devono mai mancare, e viste le profondità importanti ho pescato con pesi dai 3/8 a salire. 

Senza dubbio, la Bushadder e la Swamp Survivor sono state le mie scelte per questa tipologia di pesca. La prima, una 2 1/2 Fast (7'2"),  l' ho dedicata alle montature Texas rig dai 3/8 ai 3/4oz in base alla situazione, la seconda invece, da 3 oz Fast/Regular (7'1") era montata con un Jig da 3/4 oz. 

Ho utilizzato tantissimo il Megabass SlapHog. Le sue dimensioni (3.5") e vibrazioni date dalle chele sono state letali contro i pesci sardi che si alimentavano in prossimità del fondale in cerca di gamberi. Nonostante la taglia non eccessivamente grande, questo gambero ha un ottimo volume in acqua, grazie al suo corpo panciuto e appiattito.

🇬🇧 Of course, presentation techniques using softbaits on the bottom are a must, and given the significant depths, I fished with weights ranging from 3/8 oz and up.

Without a doubt, the Bushadder and the Swamp Survivor were my choices for this type of fishing. I used the first, a 2 1/2 Fast (7'2"), with Texas rigs ranging from 3/8 to 3/4 oz depending on the situation; the second, a 3 oz Fast/Regular (7'1"), was rigged with a 3/4 oz jig.

I used the Megabass SlapHog extensively. Its size (3.5") and the vibrations from its claws were lethal against the Sardinian fish feeding close to the bottom in search of shrimp. Despite its not excessively large size, this shrimp has excellent volume in the water, thanks to its fat, flattened body.

🇮🇹In conclusione, per le tecniche spinning ho portato con me due canne, la Jadepython (7' Fast 3/16 -5/8 oz) e la Yamakagashi (6'8" Fast 1/8 - 1/4 oz). Di quest' ultima ne farò a brevissimo un articolo dedicato, poiché molti di voi sono rimasti ingannati dalle specifiche, molto sottostimate rispetto alla reale potenza della canna, a mio avviso una 1/2 oz.

Queste sono le due canne più potenti della serie X10 spinning, e le ho utilizzate quando le condizioni erano particolarmente stazionarie e nei momenti di minore attività dei bass. Ho pescato con diversi tipi di presentazioni, in particolare con l' Hazedong 5", innescato su shaky head pescato sulle rocce, a midstrolling o a Texas con un piccolo insert in presenza della sponda o di piante sommerse.

🇬🇧 In conclusion, for spinning techniques, I brought two rods with me: the Jadepython (7' Fast 3/16 - 5/8 oz) and the Yamakagashi (6'8" Fast 1/8 - 1/4 oz). I'll write a dedicated article about the latter very soon, as many of you were misled by the specifications, which are significantly underestimated compared to the actual power of the rod, which in my opinion is a 1/2 oz.

These are the two most powerful rods in the X10 spinning series, and I used them when conditions were particularly stable and during periods of less bass activity. I fished with various presentations, particularly the 5" Hazedong, rigged on a shaky head, fished over rocks, mid-rolling, or Texas-rigged with a small insert near the bank or submerged plants.

🇮🇹 La serie X10 si dimostra ancora una volta una serie veramente completa, e adattabile al 100/100 delle realtà di pesca.
