Team Evergreen International at Street Fishing Masters

🇬🇧: In the autumn of 2025, I found out that Europe's most prestigious street fishing competition was coming to Romania, in Oradea. From the very first second, I knew there was no way I could miss this event where teams from all over Europe battle for the "Street Fishing Masters" trophy.

The competition takes place at the beginning of September over two days, with teams made up of two anglers each. In this case, the following predatory fish species counted towards the score: 5 perch, 2 chub, 2 pike, and 3 other predators from species such as asp, zander, goby, catfish, or ide. The Crișul Repede River, which runs through the beautiful city of Oradea, boasts a rich fish population, and all the above species are present. With such a wide variety of species, the strategy promised to be a complex one.

🇷🇴: În toamna anului 2025 am aflat că cel mai titrat concurs de street fishing din Europa vine în România, la Oradea. Știam din prima secundă că nu am cum să ratez acest format în care echipe din întreaga Europă se luptă pentru trofeul „Street Fishing Masters".

Concursul se desfășoară la începutul lunii septembrie, pe durata a două zile, cu echipe formate din câte doi pescari. În cazul de față, au punctat următoarele specii de pești răpitori: 5 bibani, 2 cleni, 2 știuci și alți 3 răpitori din speciile avat, șălău, guvid, somn sau ide. Râul Crișul Repede, care străbate frumosul oraș Oradea, are o populație piscicolă foarte bună, iar toate speciile de mai sus sunt prezente. Cu o asemenea varietate de specii, strategia se anunța a fi una complicată. 

 🇬🇧: In the spring of 2026, my friend Andrei and I decided to team up for this competition. All summer long, I fished exclusively with Salty Sensation Neo rods, specifically the following models:

• NEOS-63SL-S
• NEOS-70L-S
• NEOS-78MH-T

These covered every single need I could possibly encounter on the Crișul Repede River.

🇷🇴: În primăvara anului 2026 am stabilit împreună cu prietenul meu, Andrei, să facem echipă la acest concurs. Toată vara am pescuit exclusiv cu lansetele Salty Sensation Neo, mai exact modelele:

• NEOS-63SL-S
• NEOS-70L-S
• NEOS-78MH-T

Acestea îmi acopereau perfect toate nevoile pe care le puteam întâmpina pe Crișul Repede.

🇬🇧:In August, we went on a first training session because I knew the river level would be at its lowest and the fish wouldn't be biting as eagerly as they did in June. What followed were 4 days of intense fishing, spending time on the water from 8 AM to 9 PM with only a short lunch break. Other than that, we were 100% focused on fishing, fishing, and more fishing. The practice session didn't go exactly as we had hoped, but we managed to find a few lures that successfully triggered bites from perch, chub, zander, and pike. We headed home somewhat confident that we could score a good result in this competition.

🇷🇴:În luna august am plecat într-un prim antrenament, deoarece știam că râul avea cel mai mic debit, iar peștii nu mai răspundeau la fel de bine ca în luna iunie. Au urmat 4 zile de pescuit intens, în care am stat pe apă de la 8 dimineața până la 9 seara, cu o singură pauză de masă. În rest, am fost 100% focusați pe pescuit, pescuit și iar pescuit. Antrenamentul nu a fost exact cum ne-am fi dorit, dar am reușit să găsim câteva năluci la care răspundeau cu succes bibanii, clenii, șălăii și știucile. Ne-am întors acasă oarecum încrezători că putem obține un rezultat bun în această competiție. 

🇬🇧:Here we are on September 4th, for the official practice session of the competition! All we did was check if the fish were still responding to the lures we had found during our first practice, and the answer was positive. The only issue was that the local authorities had decided to clear the river of weeds, which ruined a few spots where we had previously caught fish. Now, the fish were no longer there. No problem, though—we knew what we had to do.

An important rule was that we were only allowed to carry two rods with us. So, I decided to use the Salty Sensation Neo NEOS-63SL-S rod for chub and perch, paired with finesse rigs like jig rig, cheburashka, and drop shot. The second rod was the Salty Sensation Neo NEOS-78MH-T model, intended for pike fishing using soft plastics and spoons. Both were equipped with reels featuring a 4.6:1 gear ratio, as finesse was the name of the game in this competition.

🇷🇴:Iată-ne ajunși pe 4 septembrie, la antrenamentul oficial al competiției! Tot ce am făcut a fost să verificăm dacă peștii încă mai răspundeau la nălucile găsite în primul antrenament, iar răspunsul a fost unul pozitiv. Singura problemă a fost că autoritățile locale deciseseră să curețe râul de alge, lucru care a stricat câteva locuri unde prinsesem pește anterior. Acum, peștii nu mai erau acolo. Nicio problemă, știam ce avem de făcut.

O regulă importantă a fost aceea că aveam voie cu doar două lansete asupra noastră. Așa am decis să folosesc lanseta Salty Sensation Neo NEOS-63SL-S pentru clean și biban, cu monturi de finețe precum jig rig, cheburashka și drop shot. A doua lanseta a fost modelul Salty Sensation Neo NEOS-78MH-T, destinată pescuitului la știucă cu năluci soft și linguri oscilante. Ambele au fost echipate cu mulinete cu un raport de recuperare de 4.6:1, deoarece finețea a fost cuvântul de ordine în această competiție. 

🇬🇧:The first day of the competition found us in Sector A, where we knew exactly where to look for chub first thing in the morning—and we scored one within the very first few minutes. What followed were hours of intense action as we landed perch, and according to the organizers' updates, we were sitting in the top 3 spots in our group.

At that point, we set off in search of pike, the only target species we hadn't managed to catch yet. Hours passed, but the pike refused to cooperate with our lures. Still, it was a good first day, finishing in 4th place in Sector A. We were happy with the result, but the pressure of day two was definitely making itself felt.

🇷🇴:Prima zi de concurs ne găsește pe sectorul A, unde știam exact unde să căutăm cleanul la prima oră a dimineții — pe care l-am și punctat în primele minute. Au urmat ore de foc în care am punctat bibani și, din update-urile organizatorului, știam că ne aflăm în primele 3 locuri din grupă. În acel moment am plecat în căutarea știucii, singura specie pe care nu reușisem să o prindem. Orele au trecut, dar știuca nu a vrut să coopereze cu nălucile noastre. Totuși, a fost o primă zi bună, încheiată pe locul 4 în sectorul A. Eram mulțumiți de rezultat, dar presiunea zilei a doua își făcea simțită prezența. 

 🇬🇧:On the second day, we fished in Sector B, where finesse was once again the key to success. I kept the NEOS-63SL-S rod and added the NEOS-70L-S model, as I knew the fish weren't particularly large in this sector, plus the stretch of water had already been heavily fished by competitors on day one.

In the morning, we decided to target perch first, as they were feeding aggressively during the first two hours, while chub and pike remained active throughout the day (with a peak in chub activity between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, right at the end of the match). We logged our perch in the first 45 minutes, after which a true marathon began: we ran and fished non-stop in pursuit of two chub that, by my calculations, would secure us 3rd place in Group B.

🇷🇴:În a doua zi am pescuit pe sectorul B, unde finețea era din nou cheia succesului. Am păstrat lanseta NEOS-63SL-S și am adăugat modelul NEOS-70L-S, deoarece știam că peștii nu erau foarte mari pe acest sector, iar pista fusese deja intens pescuită de concurenți în prima zi.

Dimineața am hotărât să mizăm pe biban, deoarece răspundea foarte bine în primele două ore, în timp ce cleanul și știuca erau activi pe tot parcursul zilei (cu un vârf de activitate pentru clean între orele 13:00 și 14:00, chiar la finalul concursului). Am punctat bibanii în primele 45 de minute, iar apoi a urmat un adevărat maraton în care am alergat și am pescuit fără oprire după doi cleni care, după calculele mele, ne asigurau locul 3 în grupa B.

🇬🇧:In the crazy rush for chub, I managed to catch a small zander that pushed us up the leaderboard, but the chub seemed impossible to find. Time was ticking away fast. Fast forward to less than 15 minutes before the finish: I manage to land a chub, and the second one comes in the very last two minutes of the match! We were thrilled to have pulled off a great result, giving us real hope for a spot in the overall top 10.

After a full day of fishing, we headed to the meeting point for the award ceremony. The organizer was calling out teams one by one, but the name "Team Evergreen International" was nowhere to be heard. As time went by, the host announced that three teams were tied, fighting for 3rd place overall a spot on the podium! We were overjoyed to find out that we were one of those three teams. Following the tie-breaking criteria, we finished 5th place overall a hard-earned result that brought us immense joy and satisfaction.

🇷🇴:În goana nebună după clean, am reușit să prind un mic șălău care ne-a urcat în clasament, însă cleanul părea de negăsit. Timpul se scurgea rapid. Iată-ne la mai puțin de 15 minute de final: reușesc să prind un clean, iar al doilea vine chiar în ultimele două minute de concurs! Bucuria a fost uriașă că am scos un rezultat bun și aveam speranțe reale la un loc în top 10 general.

După o zi întreagă de pescuit, ne-am îndreptat spre locul de întâlnire pentru festivitatea de premiere. Organizatorul striga echipele una câte una, dar numele „Team Evergreen International" nu se lăsa auzit. Timpul trecea, iar prezentatorul a anunțat că trei echipe sunt la egalitate și se luptă pentru locul 3 general adică un loc pe podium! Am fost extrem de bucuroși să aflăm că făceam parte din cele trei echipe. În urma criteriilor de departajare, am ocupat locul 5 la general un rezultat muncit, care ne-a adus multă fericire și satisfacție.
